What is Schluter and why does it matter?+
Schluter Systems makes a sheet-membrane waterproofing system (Kerdi) that is bonded directly behind tile. It is the gold-standard residential shower waterproofing method in 2026. Done correctly, a Schluter shower is essentially waterproof for the life of the tile. Most Saint Paul shower leaks we tear out were built with the old mortar-bed-and-pan method, which fails after 10-20 years.
How is Schluter different from RedGard?+
RedGard is a paint-on liquid waterproofing membrane. It works when applied correctly, but installer technique matters: too thin and it fails.
